It’s already week 4 in the NFL. Time sure flies when you are having fun. Once again, I will run down the morning games and give you my quick take. I’m kind of mixed on the morning NFL action. There are some good games to watch, but nothing that I would say is can’t miss football.

The New York Jets surprised the Bills by beating them 28-20 in Buffalo. The game started out good for the Bills, but things quickly turned for the worst. The Jets held a 14-10 halftime lead thanks to a TD as the half was expiring. The Bills added 10 points in the 4th quarter and tried coming back, but it was too late. They did recover an onside kick with time to tie the game, but the poor play of Losman killed the rally.

Well, someone had to win this game. Both teams were 0-2 going in and neither team is going anywhere this season. When two team with poor defenses and gun slinger QBs meet up, you know there will be scoring. These two teams wasted no time. The game was tied 14-14 at the end of the 1st quarter. While the Lions had a shot late in the game, they fell short. The Packers won 31-24.

The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 21-14 on Sunday. The Colts run their record to 3-0, while the Jaguars drop to 2-1. These two teams are looking like they could meet again in the NFL playoffs. Jacksonville’s defense has been keeping them in games. They held the Colts offense to 272 total yards.

It was supposed to be an easy win for the Dolphins—at least on paper. However, the Titans did enough and the Dolphins not enough to make this game much closer than it should have been. The Titans were up 7-3 at the half. The game was tied going to the 4th quarter and the home crowd was getting restless. Olindo Mare nailed a 39 yard field goal with about 9 minutes to go in the game to give the Dolphins the 13-10 win.

The Chicago Bears survived on Sunday by beating the Minnesota Vikings 19-16. The Bears had a 9-6 lead going into the 4th quarter. The field goal fest was ended in the 4th quarter when both teams got into the end zone. The Bears scored a TD on a 24 yard pass from Grossman to Rashied Davis with just under 2 minutes left in the game.

The Bengals are off to a fast 3-0 start thanks to their 28-20 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Steelers had a shot to get back into the game, but Ben Roethlisberger threw a critical interception—one of three on the day—and killed the Steelers hope. Big Ben has been back for two games now and he’s not looking good at all. Perhaps the Steelers should put Charlie Batch back into the mix.

The Carolina Panthers can thank John Kasey for bailing them out on Sunday. The Panthers had a 17-0 lead and almost lost. The wheels started coming off for Carolina as the Buccaneers scored 17 points off of 3 Carolina turnovers. The Buccaneers had a 24-23 lead midway through the 4th quarter. One Carolina’s last possession, they drove down the field and turned the ball over to John Kasay with 6 seconds left in the game. Kasay nailed a 46 yard field goal to give Carolina the 26-24 win.

What’s the best cure for an ailing offense? Playing the worst defense in the NFL. There was little doubt that the Redskins would be able to move the ball against the poor defense of the Houston Texans. Mark Brunell made the game special by completing 22 passes in a row—an NFL record. This game ceased being on after the first quarter. The score was 21-7 Redskins at the half. The Redskins added some more and beat the Texans 31-15.

I’ve said it before. The Cleveland Browns are masters at losing home games in heartbreaking fashion. The Cleveland Browns were up 14-3 over the then 2-0 Baltimore Ravens going into the 4th quarter. Five minutes later their lead was shrunk to 14-12. In typical fashion, the Browns allowed the Raven to drive and get into field goal range. With 20 seconds to go in the game, Matt Stover nailed a 52 yard field goal to give the Ravens a 15-14 lead and eventual win.

Unless you were a fan—or had a bet on this game—you probably weren’t watching. This was one of the least interesting games on the day. The Rams had a 13-7 lead at the half and a 16-7 lead after three quarters. The Cardinals scored a TD in the 4th quarter, but came up short. The Rams beat the Cardinals 16-14.

The Philadelphia Eagles rolled past the San Francisco 49ers 38-24 on Sunday. The Eagles now move to 2-1 and are in first place in the NFC East. The 49ers gave it a good run, but are now 1-2. One critical play was when Gore, for San Francisco, fumbled around the goal line and it was run back 98 yards for an Eagles score. That one play resulted in a 14 point swing. Coincidentally, the 49ers lost by 14.

The Seattle Seahawks came to play yesterday. They wasted no time getting a comfortable lead against the struggling New York Giants. At the end of the first quarter the score was 21-0 Seattle and the game was pretty much over. While the final score was 42-30 Seattle, the game wasn’t this close. The Seahawks had a 42-3 going into the 4th quarter and stopped playing. The Giants scored some TDs in garbage time to make it slightly more respectable.

The Denver Broncos beat the Patriots 17-7 on Sunday night. Both teams go to 2-1 on the season. The Broncos continue to prove that they have little trouble winning at New England. The Broncos had a 10-0 lead at the half. Both teams traded TDs in the 4th quarter.

The Chicago Bears pulled off a rare feat when they shut down Brett Favre and the Packers 26-0 on Sunday. It was Brett Favre’s first career shutout. Many NFL analysts—once again—are quick to slap the Bears defense with the upper echelon tag. How long before we hear about them being as good as the 1985 Bears again? I would like to point out two points. First, this was the Green Bay Packers and second, they have not shut down a top offense yet.

Let me start off by saying that I’m not one of the NFL analysts that’s very impressed with Arizona. Yes, they won, but let’s look at who they played against. They were at home against the 49ers—not the best of teams. They beat the 49ers by 7 and if not for some lucky breaks who knows. The Cardinals first real test will come next week when they travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. I expect that they will be brought back to reality.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were an afterthought for the NFL analysts this week. All the talk, except from yours truly, was about the Dallas Cowboys and how they were going to do this and that. In fact, after the loss the media talked about it as a huge upset. How do you figure that? Am I the only one that recognized that Jacksonville was 12-4 last season, that Dallas was 9-7, and that the game was being played in Jacksonville? I hope not.

It was hyped as the game to watch this past week. It wasn’t the Colts at the Giants; it was Manning vs. Manning. I must say, the game lived up to the hype. In the end, Eli Manning showed his inexperience when he collapsed mentally and threw the game ending interception. He later blamed the officials, but they didn’t throw the ball. The Giants were still in the game.

Road Warriors continue to Dominate. With LaDainian Tomlinson running through the Oakland defense and Shawne Merriman frustrating Aaron Brooks, it didn’t matter who played quarterback for San Diego. A Lot was riding on Tomlinson and it paid off

Yeah it was a marriage made in heaven with a new coach, a new attitude and an old quarterback who knows how to win. Brad Johnson led a 54-yard fourth-quarter drive, capped by Ryan Longwell’s 31-yard field goal with one minute remaining, to give the Vikings a 19-16 victory over the Washington Redskins

A taste of the Favre still left a bitter taste for Greenbay on Sunday. Brett Favre is back but hardly noticeable. This ended the 233-game scoring streak that The Packers enjoyed. Chicago surprised many with their 26-0 win over Green Bay

In yesterday’s story it was reported that QB for Kansas City Chiefs Trent Green sustained a serious head injury by Cincinnati’s Robert Geathers. He is currently resting comfortably in Hospital with a severe concussion. Officials are hoping that he should be discharged by at least Tuesday September 13th.

The game’s first play from scrimmage, Tom Brady fumbled as he was belted by Takeo Spikes, and London Fletcher ran the recovery in for a 5-yard touchdown. Brady was not content with the way he performed, 11-for-23 for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He was however fairly happy with the end result after the Patriots were able to pull it together with 19-17 over the Bills.

There was a sense of Irony in the air between QB for Cincinnati Carson Palmer and QB Trent Green for Kansas City. It was only last January when Palmer suffered a devastating knee injury, Green was one of the first to call the Cincinnati quarterback. They barely knew each other at the time, [...]

It was a case of the Falcon and the Pussycat or so many thought on Sunday after the Panthers 20-6 defeat to the Falcons. According to Rushing back Warrin Dunn, they walked into this game as the underdogs after rushing for 132 yards “We’ve added some guys who have been to the Pro Bowl. There’s an emphasis to get to the next level.”
