This game features a couple of good defenses going at it. Last week the Bills surprised the Vikings by beating them 17-12 in Buffalo. Meanwhile, the Bears crushed the Seattle Seahawks 37-6. The Seahawks were without the MVP of the league, Shaun Alexander, and they looked flat.
The New York Jets surprised the Bills by beating them 28-20 in Buffalo. The game started out good for the Bills, but things quickly turned for the worst. The Jets held a 14-10 halftime lead thanks to a TD as the half was expiring. The Bills added 10 points in the 4th quarter and tried coming back, but it was too late. They did recover an onside kick with time to tie the game, but the poor play of Losman killed the rally.
The game’s first play from scrimmage, Tom Brady fumbled as he was belted by Takeo Spikes, and London Fletcher ran the recovery in for a 5-yard touchdown. Brady was not content with the way he performed, 11-for-23 for 163 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He was however fairly happy with the end result after the Patriots were able to pull it together with 19-17 over the Bills.
The NFL has such a better fan base than MLB baseball. The proof is in the pudding. Today, that pudding resides in Buffalo where the Bills, despite being a losing team are selling tickets to games. The Bills did not sign any marquee players this off-season. They did not build a new stadium. All they did was get a little creative in their marketing and appeal to the football appetite of fans.
No one can argue that last season’s performance by Willis McGahee was lackluster. After having a solid 2004, he failed to impress in 2005. McGahee is determined to make 2006 a better year and the Bills sure need a solid running back. On Moday, the Bills started a three-day mandatory minicamp. McGahee showed up looking much better, physically, than he did in 2005.
