2008 Super Bowl Odds

The 2008 Super Bowl odds are out and now is a great time to start looking at them. These NFL future odds will change as the offseason progresses. There are some good values this year.

When looking for value, I look for teams that are somewhat likely to make the playoffs. Right away we can discard 100-1 teams such as the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Cleveland Browns. These three teams haven’t improved much and are on the bottom of the talent pool.

If you feel like gambling, the Arizona Cardinals at 50-1 might be a play. I don’t think they’ll win the division, but they’ve got the talent to sneak into a Wild Card spot. Speaking of the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks are a fair value at 20-1. They are improving this offseason, and a healthy Seahawks team will be a Super Bowl contender.

Keep an eye on the Randy Moss situation. If he’s traded to Green Bay, the Packers will look good at 50-1. The rest of the NFC lacks solid value. The Chicago Bears are 8-1 to win the Super Bowl, which is too low, and the New Orleans Saints are 15-1.

Looking at the AFC and possible playoff contenders, the staples – Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots – aren’t good values at all. The Colts are 6-1, and the Patriots are 10-1. One of the worst values is the San Diego Chargers at 6-1. They over performed last season and did nothing in the playoffs. The Chargers aren’t getting better. They lost their head coach, and that should hurt them.

One AFC team to keep an eye on is the Kansas City Chiefs. They are 30-1, a good value, and they have a solid shot at making the playoffs next season. If they make the playoffs, you’ll have plenty of hedging room.
