It seems that running back Chris Brown is tired of being a Tennessee Titan. He’s been their number one guy for the past two seasons. His agent, Wynn Silbermann, has presented a formal request to the Titans for the trade on Brown’s behalf. It could have something to due with the fact that Brown is in the last year of his contract and will earn $1.57 million this season. He came onto the scene in 2004, thanks to the departure of Eddie George.
Another reason could be that Brown fears competition and perhaps it will be revealed that he’s not a top running back after all. The Titans acquired Travis Henry from the Bills and drafted LenDale White from USC. Both are expected to be very hungry for the ball. When Eddie George left, the job fell into the lap of Chris Brown. He’s had no real competition—until now. Brown has also had issues. He was suspended four games for violating the substance abuse policy of the NFL.
The Titans are sitting in a good spot. They have a comparable running back in Travis Henry on the team now and another potentially solid back in LenDale White. I don’t think the Titans are going to jump and do anything unless they realize that Brown is simply not needed and there’s a good buyer out there.
