The Philadelphia Eagles rolled past the San Francisco 49ers 38-24 on Sunday. The Eagles now move to 2-1 and are in first place in the NFC East. The 49ers gave it a good run, but are now 1-2. One critical play was when Gore, for San Francisco, fumbled around the goal line and it was run back 98 yards for an Eagles score. That one play resulted in a 14 point swing. Coincidentally, the 49ers lost by 14.
Donovan McNabb looked good on Sunday. His passes were crisp. He was 18 of 33 for 296 yards and 2 TDs. Brian Westbrook supported the offense with 117 yards on the ground. He had 8 carries and one of them went for 71 yards and a TD. Westbrook had 2 TDs on the day. Reggie Brown caught 5 McNabb passes for 106—one for 50 yards.
Alex Smith was 27 of 46 for 293 yards for the 49ers. He threw another TD. He’s starting to show improvement this season. Frank Gore had 52 yards from 16 carries on the ground. He had the critical turnover. He’s proving that holding onto the ball might be a challenge.
Next week the 2-1 Eagles play at home against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. San Francisco travels to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
