As part of an on-going series, I’ll be looking at the betting trends and results from the previous week.
Week 1 had some upsets, but overall it was a great week to bet the favorites.
NFL Favorites Overall: 11-5
NFL Home Favorites: 7-3
NFL Road Favorites: 4-2
The totals lines skewed to the under as well.
Under the total: 9
Over the total: 7
Not surprising, the average points scored per game in week 1 was 35.6. In fact, in this article (free nfl prediction) I said that the average points to expect was about 36.
So how did the public do? Not so good.
Using a source of mine, I looked at where the public was on each game. A couple games were right at 50/50, so those don’t count.
There were 14 games that the public was definitely on a side.
PUBLIC SIDES: 5-9
The public was hammered (no surprise).
However, the public was about 50/50 on the totals.
Here are some other fun NFL betting stats (against the spread) from week one:
Teams with a 100-yard + rusher: 6-1
Teams with a 300-yard + passer: 4-0
Teams with a kicker who scored 10+ points: 6-0
