Week 2 of the NFL season is officially in the books and it had its share of drama. The blown call in the San Diego / Denver game by ref Ed Hochuli cost the Chargers the game and completely blew the game for Chargers bettors.
Overall, the NFL betting lines for the week for sides were fairly straightforward. The public appears to have done well.
Two key stats that might grab your attention are the number of betting wins on totals lines when the total was 40+ and the road favorites who won.
Public on the sides: 11-2
However, it’s easy to see why the public did well. The teams that covered were more “in the spotlight.” Some of the teams were: Giants, Patriots, Packers, and Colts.
The public got hammered on totals.
Public on totals: 5-9
Perhaps the most interesting game to me was the Seahawks at home against the 49ers. The over/under line was 40 and you’d think it would be a lock for the over. Yet, there was a landslide to the under by the public (over 80%).
Here are some other football betting notes from week 2 in the NFL:
Favorites covered: 8-7
Home favorites covered: 4-6
Road favorites covered: 4- 2
Over/Under: 7-7 (1 push)
Overs when totals line is 40+: 7-2
Average points scored per game: 45.6
In the 2007-08 NFL season, there were 43.4 points scored per game on average in week 2. So, the first two weeks of this season have followed the point scoring trends of the recent past.
